When To Get Siding RepairsMissing siding
Siding is fairly durable, but if there’s an intense storm or your home has had some damage, parts of the siding can come off. If there are a few sections of the siding that have come loose or completely come off, they can be replaced. Cracks Or Chips Mild damage like cracks or chips often only requires a siding repair. Cracks that are caused by impact or other isolated incidents and that are not caused by age or other circumstances that may affect a large area of the home are easily repaired. If the cracks and chips are too large or are widespread, you may need a siding replacement. Dents Similar to chips and cracks, dents are often small-scale damage that can be quickly repaired. Dents are most commonly caused by impact and are normally concentrated in one area. Mild Mildew Or Mold Mold might seem like a big issue, but as long as it hasn’t spread too far, it can be resolved with a quick siding replacement. Mildew is even easier to resolve, as it doesn’t penetrate materials the way mold does and it can normally be easily removed either with a siding replacement or sometimes with just a good cleaning. That being said, it can be hard to tell the difference between mold and mildew so if you suspect mold, it’s safest to get a siding repair so that there are no remaining spores that can spread. When To Get Siding ReplacementSome damage may be too extensive for siding repair and will require a full replacement. These types of damages include: Age If your siding is getting old, you will see issues developing in all different areas of the siding. This dictates a full siding replacement, as all of the siding will likely age at the same rate and trying to repair it one area at a time won’t work in the long run. Extensive Cracking If you had cracks on your siding that didn’t receive siding repair when it was needed, these cracks can develop to the point where the siding is no longer salvageable. Fading Vinyl siding in particular is meant to retain its color for it the entirety of its use. If it has begun to fade, the waterproofing is likely wearing off. If you have noticed fading on your siding, you may also want to check for damage such as mold and cracks. You’ve Already Had Siding Repairs If you’ve already had some siding repair work done, especially if you’ve had multiple siding repairs or in various locations, it is probably time to replace it all. This is a sign that your siding is no longer performing its job and that it needs to be completely redone. If you don’t replace it at this point you’ll continue to need siding repair repeatedly.
